Connor had given up about 40 second prior. He wanted out of that fight. He basically took a dive to save himself from getting knocked out. He was rocked and didn’t know what to do.

I've always loved them Diaz brothers. Some people say they talk a lot of Shhhuff but when they go out in the octagon, they always go balls to the wall. Both have big hearts and always have a never quit attitude.
What a time to be alive. Probably the most excited me and my friends had ever been for a fight, but especially the pre fight trash talk. Iconic.

yeah, as you likely know nate is tactical. if nate just went for the choke conner might be able to defend...but conner can't defend everything in that position. nate should've won their 1st fight, so no surprise with the outcome here

I have a lot of respect for Nate Diaz and his family for this fight because Nate Diaz was the very first man to defeat Conor McGregor, and anyway shape or form in the UFC. Congratulations, Mr. Diaz, you rock what an incredible fight.

The most incredible thing about Diaz performance is the way he suddenly sensed Conor slow down, he was taking shots at will the second Conor lost a bit of strength Diaz switched on, walked through all his punches and stopped him. The man was born to fight incredible

I was Buffalo Wild Wings bar for this fight and it was the craziest experience at a bar ive ever had. Everyone went nuts smashed beer glasses together and made a noise so loud it was like we were all there. Good times.

Came back to this in honor of nates time in the UFC. The guy is an absolute warrior, I don't know if he even feels pain in his face I can't say for sure but the guy is almost genuinely unfinishable. The doctors have to step in and say 'mate, your face is gonna fall off if you carry on. I'm stopping it.' Connor was absolutely at his peak at this point, he hit nate hard, accurate, and thought he would put him away. Man should've done his research... You don't just put nate away. What a fucking fight he was. Cheers for all the entertaining fights nate, you were a real one.

Rewatching this a few years later, and it's pretty crazy how much energy McGregor was blowing in the first. Punching a lot of air, and throwing all his power behind that left. Great job by Nate this fight.

He was taggin Nate alot but if you really pay attention in the first Nate was landing shots too , Conor landed harder but that first round was pretty competitive, and in the second after Hate rocked him , he was still throwing bombs back , I don’t think anyone should say Conor doesnt have good cardio

People need to realize that Conor was invincible at this time. He was running through everyone and when Nate took the fight on short notice, everyone figured it would be easy work for Conor. When that momentum swung and you felt like Nate had a chance, wow. I’ve been chasing that feeling since then.
Man the ending sequence of this fight still give me the chills till this day 🥶

This one’s my absolute favouritest fight in UFC history. The fact that he took that fight in less than 2 weeks notice, and win against the biggest name in UFC at that time is absolutely awesome.

It's unfortunate that I can't do that when wearing a gi cause sometimes it sure would help getting the choke lol
I remember seeing Nate at my local gym, Combat Sports Academy, in Dublin, CA, not long before this fight. I was star-struck, to say the least, but I wanted to keep my cool. The next thing I knew, he was gearing up right next to me in this little changing room we had for putting on our muay-thai gloves/shin pads, bjj gis, etc. After finishing my muay-thai class, I moved onto bjj, which I had only been learning for about a week. Nate ended up being the special guest instructor and was teaching us all kinds of complicated moves, haha. I was on the ground rolling with someone, trying my best to replicate what he taught us, and he came over to me and gave me a few pointers. I really regret not talking to him more and maybe even getting a picture with him for my mom. She's a big Nick and Nate Diaz fan. It was still cool to meet him like that, right before his life changed forever in the best way possible. My mom and I jumped for joy, screaming and hollering, watching Nate choke Connor out live because so many doubted him, but we believed in him 100%. One of the best moments of my life.

I've watched this a gazillion times and it always feels like the first. Iconic Nate throwing his arms after a Stockton slap stunner. Never seizes to amaze me. Nate Hall of fame

Dude you could tell Connor wasn't ready for how resilient Nate was. Connors striking at the start was so good and dude had won 15 straight fights and 17 of 19 were knockouts. Clearly he was expecting to just go in there and finish him like he did all his other fights. But Nate just ate everything he threw at him and you could just see it set in, Connor was just exhausted and in awe at how Nate was still standing. It's like he stopped defending himself snd let Nate keep throwing those small jabs at him and then Nate landed a huge combo and stumbled him. After that he just kept the pressure and Connor was just too overwhelmed. He even started smearing all his blood on Connor on top of it all just further discombobulating Connor. One of the best fights ever

Finally a comment that isn't "Connor fan boys crying after this one" or "Nate is a jobber"....Thank you, for brining hope, even if it's just a little to such a pathetic bipolar and childish community like the MMA community and respecting what these fighters ACTUALLY are, not just trying to put your own Skip Bayless spin on it all. Appreciate it. Absolute warriors, and like you said McGregor had the skill and power advantage and clearly thought that would carry him like all previous fights before....But God DAMN did he not have the cardio advantage. And that's....a death in this game.
I watched this live at Twin Peaks. The energy of the people in the bar was amazing. There was just a buzz in the air. Will always remember this fight and how everybody went nuts when Conor tapped.

@@CecilioSprayetti Well not really you have to remember by this time Conor only went the distance whilst in the UFC once with Holloway and won and he wrestled and seemed fresh (Wrestled due to him injuring himself mid fight) and Chad Mendes gassed against him every other fight was a finish within the first or second round. Conor wasn't known at the time to gas out it was this fight that highlighted his stamina issue.

Honestly the most excited I ever been watching an mma fight. We all felt the power shift to the underdog. This gave me chills, one of the coldest photos ever is of Nate all bloodied up flexing while McGregor on the ground.

Both are past their prime but Diaz will always have the cardio advantage, ground game and durability. If Conor couldn't knock Diaz out then, what is he going to do now that Conor's destroyed his body? Nate beats him 9 out of 10 times from here on out.

Nates skills are unbelievable definitely one of the top favorites in UFC in the rematch id like to know how much conor spent in training and equipment and coaches to prepare for the fight as opposed to nate

This, leon beating Usman and amanda nunes running around with both belts have got to be some of my favorite moments off the top of my head.
Nate punching Conor’s head into place (10:18) will always be one of my favorite Diaz/ufc moments of all time. Shit makes me chuckle every time 😂

I remember watching Nate on the ultimate fighter with my dad. He said that’s a young man that I would never bet against. He said Nates like his brother, he’s tougher than hell and has a tank that never runs out.
One of the most historic fights! I have been back here 5 times in less than 3 months. Don’t never underestimate anyone.

One of the best fights I have ever seen in my life.
Nate Diaz is an absolute warrior I can’t help but get fired up as he just drives forward 3-4 sets of stitches he just keeps pushing. Nate’s greatest attribute is grit
One of the greatest MMA fights. Both fighters fought clean, with mutual respect, courage, determination, and great skill. What a great fight. Both fighters should be very proud.

Rewatching this makes me realize how refreshing it is to not have every moment of a fight talked over. The periods of silence from the commentary team without unnecessary filler talk are great. I miss it. Now, there isn’t single moment during a fight where someone isn’t babbling or cramming an ad in.

This was one of those where were you at moment's. It will go down as one of the most legendary fights in UFC history. I went absolutely ape shit when Diaz won.
Nate is so real, i remember after the fight he didn't think that much of it and the star he became. I checked his Instagram he posted up a picture of some 40s saying he was going to drink or some sht. I was like dude ain't faking it he really is who he says.

Nate being such a class act at the end, despite the build up and trash talk prior, is really heartwarming to see. I absoloutely love Nate. His brother Nick was one of the first ones( along with BJ Penn) that gave me a different and better understanding of real fighting and how fighting isn't this strongman contest. Became absoloutely obsessed and if you're new to the game but really love it I suggest going back and watching Nick's old fights, training footage, and interviews. He's not the most articulate but man he has a good understanding and mind for fighting. A great teacher as well! The Diaz brothers style is geared more towards no time limit no weight classes like the old school UFC days which Nick was essentially brought up on as a young teen possibly even pre-teen so his persepective on fighting is very OG UFC and based more on realistic street fight scenarios and he's passed that on to Nate. Dudes are really MMA legends. I like Khamzat a lot but I'm hoping Nate gets the win. Huge respect to Nate for taking the fight as well because Khamzat is a monster and naturally bigger than Nate but I think the Diaz camp and most likely Nick see something they can exploit and get the win. Really hope that crew can bring the win home.

I love the character development Nate Diaz had after this fight. Nate went from hating MMA and treating it like a bloodsport that he only does because of his brother Nick to actually embracing it from the bloody fighting, the respect between opponents and showmanship. Back then people only see Nate Diaz as a thug who bitches about not being paid enough. Now after this fight, Nate Diaz earned that big payout and now he went from living with his mom and brother to actually becoming millionaire, marry his long time gf amd have children. He had matured alot since then and its a so good to actually witness it.

He knew Conor was going to scramble so he followed his body movement and pulled guard immediately which is literally a bjj guys bread and butter, McGregor wasn't controlling the position as Nate was throwing his legs up to either get a triangle or rubber guard. Conor didn't even land a single ground strike so idk how you believe he completely controlled him on the ground

Nate diaz cause he is very resistant solid to damages due to his specific genetics This is something often neglicted in fight. solidity to damages Some people you throw 1 lightly powerfyll punch they get droped and need to go to hospital And some people you can throw 20 very powerfull punch and they still up. They dont even look hurt after the fight they just clean up and enjoy the rest of the day lol
