Three Reasons Why Brendan Allen’s Ground Game is One of the Octagon’s Most Dangerous

Спорт

Rising middleweight contender, Brendan Allen, has continued to prove that his ground game is not one to mess with, earning submission wins in his last three bouts. Allen is set to face Paul Craig next in the UFC Vegas 82 main event on Saturday.

@@jmz2144 Strickland went on to be champion; that's not a bad loss in hindsight. The Curtis fight is less defensible, but Chris was on a tear at the time and not a great stylistic match-up for Brendan in truth. In any case, both guys were former training partners of Brendan and it was clear he went into those fights with a chip on his shoulder that made him fight recklessly.

He has experience as a Welterweight and I don't know his in-cage numbers or how much he cuts, but according to the man himself he's pretty big. He says he has to actively keep his body from putting on too much lean muscle mass for 185. He said at one point while out of camp prior to the Muniz fight he was at home and just spent some time casually lifting and he put on four pounds of lean muscle in the space of a couple weeks or so. He genuinely believes that he could make a run at 205 if he took a few months off and focused on strength & conditioning and would be walking around at 225 in no time flat. Take it with a grain of salt, just putting out what he said.

He walks around at 220 when he’s not in an actual fight camp. I always tell him the tv don’t do him justice 🤣, but if you meet him personally especially when he’s in the gym with me he’s a pretty big guy, actually one of the bigger middleweights! And he don’t look it but he has frigin gorilla strength!

Maybe, maybe not. I could absolutely see either guy finishing the other on the mat. Craig has been put in bad spots and pounded out with GnP or even submitted. Allen has been out-grappled by good wrestlers, but usually looks good against fellow BJJ guys... usually. He got submitted prior to joining the UFC, though. Both look fantastic when they're on, but both have big holes in their games that make one sorta want to cringe as a fan. Should be fun regardless.

Says who? RNCs are one of the most high-percentage submission in no-gi submission grappling as well as MMA for a reason... they work. The fact that Allen is able to consistently reverse Black Belts, secure dominant positions, and sink in these RNCs says quite a bit. This would be like looking at GSP and saying "Jabs aren't impressive..." because they're a fundamental strike that isn't flashy or unorthodox.
