The thing about Alexa is also, she could have easily quit the sport years ago and become an extremely successful actress/model due to her looks but she trained hard, got better and better and now it's paid off. Also opens the door for her for many future Hollywood movies.

I remember seeing Grasso fight when she was in Invicta and she used to put on a show with her striking. She seemed to lose a bit of confidence when she first made it to the UFC, but recently she got her confidence back and believes in herself. What she did tonight was incredible, she was beating Valentina in striking and forced Valentina to resort to wrestling. Valentina got frustrated and sloppy and that's all Grasso needed to take advantage and snatch her neck. With improved take down defense and even more confidence, I see Grasso winning the rematch as well.

Valentina looks to be on a downward slide, split decision victory last fight that coulda gone either way and then this loss after a stupid decision spinning back kick at the worst moment but she also clearly got out stuck she doesn’t look the same anymore

@@paulcarter5010 Teddy Atlas once said it's hard to tell if a fighter is truly great until they've had to face real adversity in the ring/octagon. When Valentina is able to execute her game plan, she makes it look easy. However, when Valentina faces an opponent that hits her hard enough to hurt her, she hasn't faired so well. The first time we saw this was her first fight with Nunes. Valentina decided to try to safely win on points after she got taken down and hit hard by Amanda. Now with Grasso, Valentina got rocked in some striking exchanges and became desperate to get the fight to the ground. Problem was she couldn't finish Grasso on the ground and Grasso began stuffing some of the takedowns. This left Valentina frustrated and vulnerable, the spinning attack was poorly timed and sloppy while Alexa's reaction to it was beautiful and lethal. I think Valentina still fought the same, it's just her opponent was different and showed the ability to hurt her while the fight was standing. That's Val's weakness.

When I saw Valentina starting to slow down and was getting exhausted I knew she was in trouble. Grasso has great cardio, she will fight every round like its the first round.

@@INK-MONO You're not making sense because this isn't Valentina's first go round with a boxer. She outclassed a former boxing champion Holly Holm on the feet and Holm is a more decorated boxer than Alexa. Valentina just straight up underestimated Alexa and also lost confidence in herself during the fight. Alexa showed her no fear and psychologically,it hampered Valentina's performance. Fighting is 60% psychological. You lose that battle and no matter how strong or talented you are,you're gonna lose.

She still has that 'pride'. Talking about how you can dominate all rounds and how unfair it is how a little mistake can cost you everything. Graceful in defeat my foot. She couldn't even give props to the new champ, Talia Santos or Amanda Nunes. Alexa Grasso did her homework and it paid off.

Was the fight of the night IMO. Back and forth action, and one of the craziest upsets I've seen in years. Submitting a DOMINANT champion like Valentina as a +700 underdog. Alexa has been grinding towards this for YEARS, and she delivered.

2 of my favourite (female) fighters, both fighting for that belt. I think I've been following them from their first appereance in the UFC, I always liked Alexa's boxing and I thought she could be really good; on the other hand I knew that Valentina would've become great. I watched the match just hoping that they wouldn't hurt each other too much. Seeing Alexa winning was emotional, as much as watching a fighter that you always liked finally winning the belt, happy of course but bittersweet. At least both of them tasted gold in their carreers☺

I must say congrats to Alexa and anyone who picked her to win. I was with the Alexa hypetrain when she first joined the UFC. High level strikers from Mexico always get my attention. But I must admit that I jumped off the hype train as soon as she lost her fights in straw weight. Especially the first one against Felice. Back then I was thinking, if u can't beat Felice, there's no chance for you to be a UFC champion EVER. Boy was I wrong. MMA taught me so much in life that, if u work hard enough, u get rewarded for your hard work. Deserved, composed and gutsy performance by Grasso

Valentina was literally 1 win away from completely filling her belt with rubies thats gotta drive her crazy

I just want to address that during one of the times that Valentine had top control against Grasso and there wasn’t much going on other than ground control. The ref suddenly came over to try and break the fighters apart from the grappling position. Valentina then saw an opening to hit Grasso with a punch caused by the miscommunication due to the referee while Grasso was in a state of confusion. Valentina then did an apology gesture at Grasso then kept a respectful distance to not play dirty nor go for a quick burst of attacks, once they were at the center of the octagon, Valentina approached Grasso slowly and extended an open palm as a way of showing her remorse for accidentally hitting Grasso with a cheap shot and it’s also a sign of respect that Valentina acknowledges Grasso as a fierce opponent that had the tools and solid gameplan to actually do damage and potentially dethrone her (which Grasso actually DID) Valentina is a classy champion in victory and defeat, her humility in a loss and her passion for fighting is one of her most defining characteristics, she can go for a quick rematch clause or rather earn it through a hard fought war like going after Taila Santos again for the rights in becoming the No. 1 Contender to be the next challenger for the Flyweight belt. Valentina will come back stronger and with more tenacity, she just needs a new strategy to the recapture championship gold once the hiatus is over.

What a finish ! She pulled the upset like a legend ! Congrats champ love u

that's probably one of the biggest upsets in UFC history. I mean I feel like there was a bigger gap between Valentina and Alexa then there was between Rhonda and Holly.

One of her strengths has always been the kicks with no telegraphing. She threw the spinning without setting it up multiple times. It’s harder to not telegraph, that kick, she has done it before but when Grasso reacted properly the first couple times she should have been careful and used it as a counter or set it up first.
