That's what I think a lot of people really aren't grassping. He didn't just go up a division, he went up and then took on the number 1 fighter in the comp. Volk would destroy every other fighter currently competing at lightweight.

Yes Volk is the best fighter. He is a real legend..but he is humble and smart

Volk is a breath of fresh air in these times. Old school, hard nosed, hard worker who gives it everything he's got with integrity. He's still a champion and still one of the top pound for pound.

Round 5 got me screaming like a pregnant lady in labour... was so hyped and he deserved it. I will NEVER, EVER be on the side of a man that is watching the clock in round 5 I don't care if the person won the first 4.

Volk proved what a PFP #1 fighter is. Went up a division, having his #1 status and undefeated streak on the line and put up a great fight. Would love a rematch

What an amazing, EPIC fight! It was a close fight but I was giving it to Volk due to his demeanor during the fight, his amazing cardio, his determination, his strength, his striking and amazing wrestling skills that most didn't expect to see against Islam! I truly think that he can become double champ easily! Can't wait for the rematch.

I'm just worried Volk's age is going to catch up to him soon. 35 I'd a but old for a featherweight, but he hasn't showed signs of slowing yet. I suppose age isn't the only thing to look at, however. There's also damage over time, of which he's taken very little.

God I love this guy man, what a champ. Double champ in our hearts.

I feel like this performance strengthens Volk's case for pound-for-pound #1, with the whole point of saying pound-for-pound being like saying "all things being equal" and Volk being a 45er that stepped up to 55 and put on a close fight keeps him at pound-for-pound #1 imo. Amazing fight with both guys surprisingly good at the others' strengths and a great crowd to back them up!

If he was 145 last night you would have a case but both of them were 155 at weigh in. He also has more reach than Islam but Islam was better on the feet too. He lost the number 1 spot fair and square. It was a very technical fight though and Volk did show up.

Literally Volk don't give Volk what the odds say. He tapped into his inner Little Mac and took da fight to my muslim brother. I was happy with either winning. One part of me wanted islam to win because he my muslim sunni brother. But usually I want volk to win because he is the little man with a huge chip of little man complex just like me on his shoulders. Literally the first two minutes of the interview are amazing hearing his mindset and thought process much respect to these fighters ❤

Volk can hang in the LW division with the best. I don’t think Poirier, Oliveira or Gaethje beat this man. He’s an animal and his cardio is unquestionably the best in the UFC. How the hell did he have that much energy after 5 rounds with a monster like Islam? Inspiring, even with the loss. And Despite him being my favorite fighter, I do believe the 48-47 scorecards were a fair decision.

Islam isn't a striker. Dustin and Justin would definitely give volk a run. Both have good ground game and use it to stay on the feet. Volk is a great striker too so it'd be a slugfest

A fight like this it's almost impossible to not become big fans of both of these guys, especially Volk for being the smaller guy and pushing the larger guy to the absolute brink. Volk is such a savage and humble fighter, he even reveals spots where Islam should make adjustments in his striking. Never heard a fighter say something like about an opponent he just faced and very well may fight again in a rematch down the line. Incredible.

I just didn’t think Volk would get dominated like people said. The man is a warrior. Seeing him getting up after being taken down, reversing positions, and defending submission attempts was so damn thrilling - That rematch needs to happen, and will be so much more explosive with the improvements they’ll make! Also he wasn't "much bigger" He's a couple of inches taller and about the same weight with shorter reach. Also, size difference is over rated anyways.

And one of the biggest reasons is that this guy takes FULL responsibility for his performance and thoroughly pushes himself to the limit. I see him coming back so much stronger in his next fight. So islam won cus he beat him standing based on that logic. He threw more shots was more accurate etc. Volk was on successful with his kicks while standing and he was supposed to be feinting and fast punches etc. If it werent for the last 30 seconds islam had won four rounds to 1.
