I guess Spann's punches looked like they a had a bit more pop to them when he landed. I had it for Spann honestly but I wasn't mad at the decision could see it either way

I knew he was landing more the whole round, but the optics weren't looking good for Smith, it definitely could have gone either way, but if Smith didn't have the eye to worry about, it would have been much easier to see why Smith won the 3rd round with what he landed than Spann.

He took this fight on short notice or did a very quick turnaround. He didn't want to take the fight, but also didn't want to sit out for the rest of the year before the ufc would try and match him up again. This was him taking a sigh of relief after his last few performances, he did what he needed to do to get his mind right, and just wants to be with his family.

This could have gone either way. I’m a fan of Anthony’s, so I’m pleased that he got the W. However, if he would have been deemed the loser of the fight, I couldn’t have honestly said he was robbed or that the decision was inaccurate. Sometimes this happens in MMA, as we all know. 3 to 5 rounds sometimes isn’t enough to differentiate the “winner” from the “loser.”

Smith is one of my favorites for sure, but that dude for 35 has a ton of mileage on him. I get “just wanting to go home and chill”

Spann won 2 and 3. Effective striking and grappling with an EMPHASIS on impact over cummalitive effect. Fight ending scenarios created by a fighter should also be weighed more heavily in the eyes of the judges.

What beating? Spann landed one good shot that swelled the eye and Smith was trying to adjust for a bit to his eye being messed up. Once they're back on the feet in the second half of round 2, Smith is piecing up Spann, Smith gets the new range and is landing at will on Spann by the end of the round. If Smith didn't have the swelling, it would have be a much closer round than you think.

Smith took the 3rd. Defended most of spans shots and landed clean shots. Span just took them with an iron chin. Smith was caught of balance so visually it didn’t look great but he won for me.
