This is why I was rooting for DDP. He's really the perfect champion. Sean is a good guy, but he really didn't respect the belt and I didn't like how he took his championship for granted. DDP really cares about his career, and holding the belt is the most important thing to him. Sean doesn't need the belt to remain a huge star. This is the best outcome for both men.

You dont see Dricus walking in with gucci shades to cover his damaged face, and bragging about how he is the best in the world. What you see is class. Grace. Humility. A true martial artist. Love him or hate him. You have to respect him. Cheers DDP.

@@n00g75they need to make it idiot proof. I think we get here again and again, because the judges all over value takedowns. If you take someone down and don’t control them for time, or create damage, or have submission attempts, the take down doesn’t mean shit.

I actually like both fighters equally and the respect they share for each other. It could have gone both ways, both deserved it. Looking forward to seeing more of em in the next years.

Man it was the gas tank Seans abs, the get together the break up the make up, the death threats the battle to the death that went to a decision wow what a match.

He went full steam ahead the whole fight. He was constantly moving and throwing kicks and punches and shooting for takedowns. I really thought he would lose steam. I thought he would tire out and then Strickland would take over. But that did not happen. His cardio surprised me. I do believe he deserved that win. Good for him.

Well, coming forward constantly isn't "winning" but Sean played to counter active and that with the takedowns is what edged the win.

Like the fact he acknowledged how close it was 👌💯👊

DDP 2,3,4 for me, super close fight though and could of gone either way. They’re both savages either way

Ddp made the second look competitive by coming forward and getting the takedown. Otherwise he mainly whiffed and got his kicks checked the whole round. Even the takedown ended up being easily reversed by Sean and dricus did no damage with it. All while Sean was peppering with punches.

ddp was outstruck in 4 rounds sean also threw more punches ddp got takedowns and walked forwards thats it he didnt even do anything witht eh takedowns so they shouldnt even be scored towards winnign the round i thought sean won 1 2 and 5 pretty clear even the numbers say he did

It was a close fight,but everyone knows that if you want to be champion,you have to BEAT the champ decisively or knock him out…and that didn’t happen….DDPs face after the fight told that story.Having said that,I can’t help but like Dricus ….Seems like a class act….very articulate,easy going,doesn’t try to sell us some ridiculous personality….i like the dude,and he IS a very good fighter

No rematch that has happened this past 5 years was as close as this fight. It'll be an insult for this not to be a rematch

Duplessis did surprise me with his cardio, and I respect him moving forward. I think the forward pressure shouldn't count when he's missing everything and getting punched in the face the whole time. Surprising from both fighters. People were saying Duplessis by KO in the first few rounds, otherwise his gas tank would be compromised. The world was surprised when Duplessis made it comfortably to the championship rounds, and when he didn't even wobble Sean the entire fight. Personally I had Sean winning, even with the way things are scored currently. Overall damage scales highest in importance, and if you look at Sean's and Dricus's face that says everything. Takedowns and control time go to Dricus but the gap in significant strikes is WAY too big for that to swing it his way. And that's even with them counting checked leg kicks as significant strikes. If you re-scale it so wrestling with no slam damage, no ground strikes, and no submission attempts doesn't account for much, and correct it so checked leg kicks don't count as significant strikes, or even count as a significant strike for the checker, the gap gets WAY bigger. I'm not mad that Dricus won, he's a likeable guy with a nice style, However, with it being a close fight, I had it 3-2 to Sean, and with the default previous to this, that close decisions go to the champion, even if the champion loses by a bit, then it should have been Sean's, EASILY. However, Sean's a controversial champ. Jones lost to Reyes by a bit and kept the belt, Sean won against Duplessis by a bit and lost the belt. That's the maths.

Your comment is right on the money. The same for Arnold Allen losing imo. Those takedowns didnt do anything on Allen either. DDP is such a strange fighter. He doesnt do anything special, maybe a good high kick with little telegraph. Good cardio after tonight. But hes not Whitaker-fast Adesanya-special , Strickland-1-2 . But hes awkward as hell, maybe thats it?

i think at the end of the day UFC didnt want to give stickland the win because they wanted to award the more aggressive fighting style.
