They split the 1st 2 rounds. The 3rd round was close. I had them even at 25 strikes, but KZ was walking LG down and had LG in trouble with some hard strikes along the cage, so I think KZ edged out the 3rd. Still, watching this again, that 3rd round was close. Regardless, this fight made KZ a fan favorite, and Zombie's evolution after this fight only helped.

The “Fight of the Decade” and made me a life long fan of TKZ 🇰🇷🧟♂️!
Although this match was lost, it was the most shocking KZ debut we remember. In the third round with Holloway, KZ seemed to want to finish with the KZ we're most excited about. KZ is UFC history and a legend.
Still one of best all out brawls you'll ever see in MMA.

you should go watch eddie alvarez vs michael chandler. i honestly dont understand why ppl don't talk about that fight to this day. michael chandler's been fighting the same way his whole career and it seems like people are now starting to see him as a super star in the sport

I was 9 years old when I first watched this fight. I remember going crazy with my dad seeing these 2 go to war. From that day on I kept up with all the other mma fights that I could with my dad. This fight made me a die hard MMA fan. I’m grateful for both these guys always.

@@madgavin7568 Zombie looked off against Ortega but looked very good in his last fight. I think Zombie would get the better of Yair on the mat tho while Yair has a slight edge on the feet. I could even see Ortega and Zombie beating Max possibly. With Zombie I feel he’s a bad matchup for Max but with Ortega it’s kind of like Max has every advantage and should win but if Ortega gets the neck it’s over. For some reason if Ortega vs Yair happens I’ve got Yair by devastating flying knee KO considering Ortega’s sloppy wrestling and how much damage he’s taken.

@@clarkdark2906 He 'looked off' against Ortega because he wasn't giving Zombie any looks on the feet. I don't like this 'so and so looked off' excuse because Ortega was technically superior to Zombie, who allowed Ortega to just work him because styles make fights. Also after Ortega landed the spinning elbow, Zombie himself admitted he was on auto-pilot for the remainder of the fight. Instead of making excuses for the fan favourite, start praising Ortega for his technical brilliance that fight.
Zombies have the heart of warriors. He doesn't know how to fall back.

I've been a fan of both fighters, Leonard long before this and Zombie following this fight. I have watched every fight they have ever had since and they never fail to put on a show. I hope to see both these guys in the hall someday, they both deserve it just for their two fights alone.

Great idea.
One of the greatest promotional debuts in MMA history. Zombie came in a complete unknown and created a fight of the year with Garcia. A laughable but intriguing nickname literally came to life and resonated into the concious of everyone who witnessed. Iconic moments, but that 17 piece combo in the second round was amazing.

This fight made me realize the MMA was deeper than just the UFC. This card was absolutely stacked as well. A lot of people at the top of this card went on to strong UFC careers.

Only the LW division existed in both UFC and WEC. For the rest the WEC was the deepest in MMA
Always on my top 10 fights of all time. A crazy display of raw fighting emotion. I love it.

One of the best but also poorly judged fights. Tkz all the way trough. You could maybe argue that round 2 went to garcia but he missed almost everything he threw. One of the greatest fights ever.

Watching this one back again after TKZs retirement fight, he was such a legend, his fights with poirier and Yair ajd of course the finishes over Hominick, Garcia, Moicano, Edgar, and many others come to mind but this is the beginning (UFC/WEC speaking) of the legend, he is one of the few who's legacy is there with or without the belt
This is the greatest fight of wec’s history if you couldn’t tell.

Great to see this incredible fight. KZ definitely dominated that fight and should have won. But it was all heart and guts by both of them.

Obviously, the skill level is low by MMA standards right now. But that alone is never enough to judge this match. The courtesy towards each other after the final bell rang was also perfect. In my opinion, this match is one of the most perfect and beautiful matches in history !
One of my all time favorite fights. The Mexican Vs Korean rivalry is underrated.

Watched this fight with my cousins over the weekend it happened and yeah this is the fight that got me absolutely in love with MMA. God bless these warriors.
At the end the crowd tells their emotion on this decision.
I don't think this is by any means one of the best fights in terms of displays of skill in MMA, however it's by far one of the most entertaining I've seen.
There is no way Garcia wins that fight 🤷♂️ Clown judges.

It's arguable he could've won the 2nd and 3rd rounds. 1st clearly went to KZ and 3rd to Garcia, I think the 2nd round should been a draw. I've never thought that in any other fight.

When Leonard Garcia is fighting you know you are in for a show. He always brings the best out of his opponents and that's why his fights are always exciting.

This is such a great fight, but I have trouble going back and watching it because of the decision, put a taint on the whole thing for me. Glad KZ was able to get this one back in the sequel.

Epic. Contender for fight of the century- I remember where I was when I watched this PPV classic. *God I miss Leonard Garcia-* love that guy, my all-time favorite brawler. Will Korea ever produce another Zombie? Shame there had to be a loser in this one. Hope retirement treats both warriors well. The WEC was the "IT" promotion for me- started my addiction.

One of the most all out fights I've seen in a while. These boys came to bang!
Legendary. Very reminiscent of the Forrest Bonner as well as the Steve Bosse Sean O’Connell fights. Similar styles, but also the context of a fight you really want to prove yourself in. Also so many great lines from Rogan. This broadcast should be in the Library of Congress Archives.
Such a good fight. Super close and action packed.
