The fight that cemented Whittakers status as one of the best middleweights of all tine.

2015-2019 were absolute peak for UFC, like every PPV and Fight Night were just top tier. I miss those times. not to say the UFC is not entertaining now but the sport was blooming during those times and the state of every division were just fascinating from champion to prospect.

Whittaker is a fkng BEAST in these romero fights, he broke feet and hands and other shit in the beginning of both those fights. Just from hitting and kicking Romero was breaking his bones. But just used elbows and jabs and whatever it took to stay in the fight and win. He was my fave fighter for yeears. Still in my top 5.

Damn! I was supposed to go to the rematch in Chicago. The card was pretty good overall if IIRC.

Whittaker got his knee destroyed in the first minute of the fight & still managed to fight for 25 mins and win

Romero beat Brunson, Tavares, Tim Kennedy, Machida, Jacare, was Weidman & Rockhold’s first loss after champ run.. then Rob beat him.

I’ve never seen a Whitaker fight where his nose isn’t bleeding. Used to have a crazy chin, DDP would never crack through years ago. Not disrespecting DDP tho, although he is way too nice.

It's crazy that Romero never became a champion.

That was insane. Rob took a beating, but Romero also got his worst beating in his career.

So many fighters would of quit after that first side kick to the knee. Dude fought an Olympic wrestler on one leg and still won. Alex Perez quit right away after taring his ACL.

Probably the cameras filming at 60 FPS (or 50) but the feed being played to everyone skipping every other frame to play at 30 FPS (or 25). That gives room for production to highlight sections of the footage for replay at 0.5x speed without perceptible jitters, and is cheaper than cameras recording at 120 FPS for the same effect.

Romero is a beast, goes to show how tough Whitaker was, n can still be. I think he just doesn’t care as much for fighting anymore. I wouldn’t either.

I forgot how horrendous the commentary was for this fight.

what kind of villain approaches the centre of the cage so low to the ground like that - Romero started this off looking the part of an actual superweapon. goddamn. even got the unnerving movement pattern throughout that opening round. now I’ve seen him in a few other fights, but in these two with Whittaker he’s something utterly fascinating. and yet Bobby Knuckles won both! nothing short of incredible.

Romero's a tank but Robert had that Captain Miller energy.

And Tony also cut weight twice before that fight and it had been a year since his last fight where Rob just fought a striker in February

What makes you possibly think that???😂 He’s 13-3 at Middleweight. The 2 losses being to Izzy and the current champ… he’s a former Middleweight Champion who technically defended the belt once. He was 3-2 at 170 with no chin.

Rob better be in the hof. He says yes to every fight.... never says no. Bisping avoided romero like a fat kid avoids salad...

I really don't care about most Middleweights résumés at this point. These two fights against a definitely enhanced Romero are the most difficult fights anyones ever had to endure, let alone win. Bobby Knuckles is Middleweight G.O.A.T in terms of attitude and what it means to be a champion.

what the heck are these commentators even watching. Romero won this fight easily, he landed the cleaner shots, out wrestled him. countered whittiaker constantly. the only thing bobby did that looked good was go forwarded.

This run from Whittaker was insane. Took on Yoel twice, Souza...Nobody was fighting them guys back then
