The only reason people think it's an early stoppage is because Ronda won, If the roles were reversed and Ronda was the one collapsing from the body shot, people wouldn't even think of calling it an early stoppage. Sara started to move AFTER Herb stopped the fight, until that point she was just curled up and holding still on the ground giving Herb every reason he needed to stop the fight. That was so early stoppage even Ronda said it. Yes Mcmann wasn't defending her head, but she was defending her liver. Her head wasn't even in danger. Ronda wasn't even hitting her head or didn't even look like that she was going to hammer her head off so I don't know wtf is going in Herbs head. UFC is so favoring Ronda they didn't even give mcmann chance to fight and comeback. We've seen it hundred times people get kneed, they drop an come back up or get finished in the ground but now we didn't see neither.

Why are they booing it's not Rousey's fault the fight was stopped a tad early though she would have won anyway. She fought a very smart fight and did what she said she would. Herb Dean must have smoked up before heading to UFC 170 because he let the Mike Pyle fight go on too long and stopped this one too early even though the outcome was inevitable. Also, Sara McMann is tough as nails and she will come back stronger.

Herb dean should seriously be fired now! He's worse than Steve Mazzagatti! That black son of a bitch has ruined 2 main events in a row!!!!

she went limp and flopped. Yes she was recovering but had he let it go on 5 more seconds it could've either went really bad or she would've gotten up. His job is to protect them so he went with the decision he was trained to make.

Eddie King Cheick Kongo was moving, Sara was on her knees, one hand on her stomach, on hand on the mat, not moving and getting punched in the head. People are arguing that she was getting up when the fight was called without realizing that she was getting up because the fight was called. Herb jumped in and Ronda stopped and moved off. If that didn't happened then Sara would have just gotten punched and kneed more before she was completely out. The job of the ref is not to let the fight keep going until one fighter is unconscious but to stop when on is no longer defending him/her-self - which was Sara's case....... With all that said...damn it, wish it went a little longer :P

Dude you're ridiculous. Herb is one of the 2 best refs in the business along with Big John McCarthy. He's the one that is certified as a referee, he's the one that has been in the cage just feet from the action for over 10 years. He's got over 3500 fights worth of experience, and more than once he was recognized/awarded as the best ref in MMA. I didn't see this year's show, but Herb has won "Referee of the Year" by Fighter's Only Magazine's World MMA Awards every year since they started back in 2010. Dana White has said that Herb "is one of the best referees in this business. Actually, I think he's the best" (in reference to his stoppage in the fight between Mike Swick and Paulo Thiago) Dana added that after Dean's stoppage of the Mir vs. Sylvia fight he never questions Dean. "When Herb Dean does shit, I don't even question it anymore. I wait for the replay. This guy sees shit that I can't see sitting there watching the monitor. After what happened for UFC 169's main event Dana said "he made a mistake" but I disagree. Sure, sometimes when it is a title fight the ref will give the fighters extra time if they appear to be in trouble... but even title fights get stopped if one fighter is obviously done. Look at Chael Sonnen for the Silva rematch. Chael was all over Silva from the first second until he went for that spinning back-fist with 3:32 on the clock. That's about 1 minute 28 seconds of Chael giving it to Anderson... and after he fell to the mat from the spinning back-fist all it took was that knee and only about 10 strikes from Silva before the ref stopped the fight with 3:05 on the clock. So about a dozen strikes and just 30 seconds and the ref felt that was enough to stop the fight. Nobody is perfect, but Herb Dean is the best guy to have in the cage if you're fighting. The people saying he's the worst in the business and should be fired don't have a clue what they are talking about. You might not like the decisions he makes sometimes, but disagreeing with his call doesn't mean he's wrong and you are an expert. If you want to see what a bad referee not stopping a fight soon enough check out Luis Santos practically killing Shamar Bailey at XFC 23. Gary Copeland is lucky Bailey didn't get seriously hurt. All these armchair critics and even UFC commentators all think they are more qualified than Herb Dean, but even fighters don't see what is going on like the guy in the cage just feet from the action. You might not like his call, but unless you are a ref with as many fights as Herb Dean has it's just your opinion of what you think happened.

People that open their mouth and say this was a BAD stoppage are 1- Don't know anything about fighting and 2- Don't know how to fight themselves. This girl was HURT badly, Ronda could of take her head off while she was gasping for air etc... She went down like a ROCK not even looking or caring about anything else but her liver... Yet another early stoppage. McMann wasnt even given a chance to recover. As soon as she went down ( one hand on stomach, one holding herself up ) the reff moved in and started to call it off. Ronda landed what 1-3 punches before it was all over and done with? Should have at least let her move and have a chance. Sad and pathetic. This is top level fighting and for the damn belt! And you call it off like that?

Well, that's embarrassing to admit. Hopefully, you got something out of it for your sake. Both Ronda and Sara are fantastic athletes and Ronda did a fantastic job with her striking. Herb was on point; refs are there to protect fighters, and even Sara acknowledges this. Booing a fantastic finish is just immature. Show the undefeated champion and referee some respect. ***** Okay, I'm going to pretend you didn't insult me and reply civilly. First off, I've been watching MMA since January-ish 2011--so no, I haven't been watching for too long, but it's been over 3 years since I've been a fan. I'm not only a Ronda fan/bandwagoner. I am, however, a Ronda fan. Second, I have to agree with you about Herb's Waldburger hesitation; that's why he HAD to be on point for Ronda's match ... he'd already let a fight go too far earlier in the night. The end of Ronda v Sara reminded me of Urijah v Renan in terms of the fact that some say they ended prematurely, but I don't think either were atrocious calls. Maybe Sara could have continued to fight, but she wasn't defending herself after that last knee--she just dropped, and technically, refs are there to put a stop to things if you're not properly defending yourself (in Urijah's case though, he did give a thumbs up but I believe based on the angle the ref had (Herb also) didn't have a clear view of the thumbs up and was probably waiting for a vocal affirmation that he was OK. I also have to agree that quite a few of these match-ups nowadays are just hype for new/bandwagon UFC fans; I honestly thought Sara had no chance from the beginning. Don't get me wrong, she's an INCREDIBLE wrestler obviously, but I knew her game wasn't as well rounded as Ronda's... not to mention that almost half of her wins had come from decisions--she doesn't often finish people. (& I personally think Baszler should have gotten the decision in their fight, but, eh, it was close). I will have to agree to disagree with you regarding the booing; I still think it's a joke when drunk douchebags won't let a champion have her celebratory post-fight interview. If the fans are to be upset, booing Herb's call during Ronda's interview won't change the call, it just disrespects Ronda. Then, there are those new Miesha fans who think Ms Cupcake is the best thing since sliced bread and dislike Ronda just because they're Miesha fans... and those idiots boo just to boo Ronda. Miesha, also an extremely talented wrestler, is a great fighter, but some of her fans make it very hard to like her. But, I digress... Last, I, must agree there are lots of UFC fans who are imbeciles, I actually believe there were a greater percentage of them earlier on in the sport, but then another huge influx of idiotic fans have chimed in during the past year. Sad, but true. Cory Urton If I were the cameraman/videographer standing next to the absurdly loud boo-er, I would've clocked him (or maybe an ironic knee to the body). It's rude and these guys don't get told off in real life. I'd like to point out the following: I am also, to you and him, a stranger on the internet. That knee was a paralyzing blow to McMann. If the ref had not stopped it, she would have been the recipient of more that could have seriously hurt her. The fight was over and the ref made a good call. Get over it, the better girl won. How is it herb dean lets a dude a few fights before get his ass whoop and gave him a long time to recover but yet when mcman gets hurt he does not give her no time to recover? It makes no sense at all. Its clear he called it way to early because YES! ronda had her down but she was getting back up without a doubt. I can promise anyone this if ronda got drop like mcman did. The ref would of gave ronda a good amount of time to recover and this is why it was a bullshit call.  He gave her no time to recover are you going to deny she was already getting back up? she was not going to get a serous injury.

Yes she would have. Rousey would have beat her if she had gotten up. She was hurt by that blow and any more following blows would have seriously hurt her. And judging from your first question, you have no clue what the ref would have done if the situation was reversed. She will get a rematch and Rousey will beat her again, she's just a better fighter. You may not like her, but she's better. Her record proves that. You can't argue with that. Remember Ali? Mouthy, beligerant, obnoxious, and everyone wanted to see him get his ass kicked too. Didn't happen because he was a better fighter. It's the same thing here. She is a force to be reckoned with and time will prove that.

I think Sara had some nice shots on Ronda and did a great job keeping on her feet, nevertheless, Ronda was too strong and fought very stragically. Her game plan was to knee Sara's liver and do as much body damage as possible, and that's what she did. Ronda is a great champion. Lay off Herb Dean. The guy rocks!

AHAHAHAHAHAHAH It was 1 knee that hurt and Sara defended herself always. not to take anything away from Rousey but that was being a very back and forward fight, Ronda got clipped and wobbled and Herb def stopped it way too soon

meialuakampinas I don't understand why people keep saying she was defending herself. The moment she got hit she fell to her knees and then had one hand clenching her stomach and the other on the ground and she was in that position for about 2 seconds. Please explain how that is "defending herself".

cobra7282 2 seconds? so covering up for 2 secs and then grabbing the opponents legs isn't defending yourself? sure, there is no doubt Ronda hurt Sara bad,nor am i disputing her greatness just that the fight was stopped early which is a fact, especially a title fight. Herb gave Faber more of a chance and still it was early.

There is such a huge difference between the expression on Ronda's face before and after the fight. At first she looked liked like a prison inmate, and afterwards she looked almost like a cheerleader.

Wow Sara Mcmann is so humble. Totally got robbed but she plays it off like its 50/50. Total class act.

Ronda Rousey your my favorite WOMENS UFC FIGHTER i think the fact that you just demolish everyone you fight is a big turn on your great fighter.

Props to Sara for taking ownership of the loss and not making excuses like most fighters would. I'm hoping to see a rematch after Davis and Cat get a crack at it.

Even though I hate Rousey. That was a good stoppage. Mcmann dropped like a fly from the liver shot instantly, was sprawled out on all fours cowering in a vulnerable position. The majority of the crowd booing just sounded idiotic. I use to hate Rousey with a passion but she is in the fight game and she's young and learning. So I can kind of understand the way she is and you can tell she's working on it. People realize your true hate for Rousey and understand it's because she is just completely annihilating all competition seeming effortless and so quick like no other fighter in the history of the UFC or the fight game.

Admit it people. Ronda is a beast. People hate but when you think about it shes proved shes the best. Do you know how good you have to be for other fighters to know what your gonna do and still pull it off.
