He was actually ready to get knocked out in the 4th round itself when yan clipped him while being backed up against the cage by sterling. What made me furious was how the commentators (specifically cormier and rogan) immediately pinned yan as the bad guy. These people are fighters, and all they want to do is fight professionally, they would never wish anything bad upon their rivals let alone their opponents.

Here's the proper-ish translation: 0:09 You saw everything yourself. I honestly don't even know what to say. I understand that I've made a mistake rules-wise and ofcourse I didn't mean to do it on purpose. I was focused on how his hands were placed. Referee came in before the fight and was explaning alot specifically about hands and fingers placement on the ground and I got fixated on that moment, so when I've noticed that he lifted his hands up, I hit him. 1:25 To be honest I didn't exactly get what they were saying. I was mostly focused on his hands placement, on the moment when he lifted them off the ground. It will probably be well visible on the video how he lifted them up; I didn't notice that he was on his knee, I thought he was squatting. 2:10 No, I didn't get it straight away. Again, I saw his hands were off the canvas so I still thought that I did everything right. I've missed that he had one of his knees touching. 2:42 I don't know. That's something you can probably judge better from aside, something he knows better but...you saw I was winning that fight. 3:20 This is upsetting, saddening... but I think that he as a fighter...such belt in such a fight... he won't accept that belt; and if the rematch will get organized for us and if he'll be allright, I'll gladly rematch him any time soon. 4:03 No I didn't talk to anybody. Coach Erik came to me, we shook hands and parted ways. 4:30 Honestly I didn't see it but if he acted this way...he understands that he was loosing the fight and winning the belt in the top organization of the world in such a manner is not prestigious. 5:25 Yes, of course, I had a plan for early rounds to just throw feints, pressure him a little, keep distance but let him to work, kick alot, waste energy; and then in later rounds do my job. 6:15 No, it all was predictable. We knew what he was going to do: try to wrestle, strike like that. I was trying to take his back and prevent him from throwing elbows, etc. 7:00 Yes, of course. If he had his knee on the ground, it was rule-breaking on my part. I did not do it on purpose. You know that there's a belt on the line and to commit such a mistake on purpose is unacceptable. 8:00 Yes, the best possible thing I thought could have happened was to fight be declared a no contest. 8:40 Yes, of course I'll be really upset if UFC will not give me a rematch, but I am already upset as is.

Aljo was getting ragdolled, Petr was putting next to no effort into those trips and throws in round 4 the knee was absolutely illegal but maybe instead of losing a title it should be considered a no contest

I love the fact that he did not show any emotions. His face doesn't show any frustration. It's like he's programmed only to fight. That's the only thing he cares about. Now I know he's called "No Mercy".

I think its kinda stupid that in this case belt went to Sterling. Should go vacant or sth else imo.

No it makes sense. It wasn't an accident which would make it an unintentional dq and the belt vacant. It was intentional and against the rules, if a move is illegal and intentional or the fighter misses championship weight then the fighter doesn't get the belt

Agree its BS but dont think he was acting. Concussions can be like that. Head cloudy, legs gone, dizzy....then after 1hr youre good to go. At least from my experience. So it makes sense he was cleared. They dont show on CT or MRI typically

It was a hard knee but I feel like Sterling was putting it on a bit. He was starting to tire and Jan was taking control. It looked like he took an easy way out.

No, he is not. Right before illegal knee his corner was screaming "HIT HIM", Yan said "Knee?" and they said "Yes" and he did it immediately. Check it here twitter.com/ChillemDafoe/status/1368426618755182593
