What’s the risk? There’s only upside. If he loses well, that was expected because he’s going up in weight. He doesn’t even lose his belt. If he wins, immediately, he’s one of the greatest of all time.

And you might want to check weigh in vs fight day weights rather than just regurgitating what you read in a comment somewhere... Khabib was not excessively more of "weight bully" than anyone else in the top 5. Poirier and Gaethje have exceeded him for example. Also, calling them average is delusional. At the time of the fights they were killers. Same as Michael Johnson and Barbosa at the time of those fights. And if Khabib had fought Alverez instead of conor as planned (he'd already signed - conor got bumped)... You lot obsessed with title defenses would be looking at a crazy number and conor would never have risen like he did. That's why they are not so important. Volk has a very good chance, hes just not the favorite. Its not gunna be like the biggest upset in UFC history if he wins…Volk is p4p #1 for a reason but this is Islam’s division and he has the clear advantage

I know it’s his coach but Volk is taking zero risk here. If he wins it’s some amazing feat and he’s the double champ. If he loses he was always the “smaller guy” and the position in his division and his belt is untouched. Nobody cares about the p4p ranking so whether he’s 1 or 2 everybody will continue to know he’s one of the absolute best fighters now or ever.

You can hear it in every build up to his fights how he’s still the best hands down and that he was extremely competitive against someone at least 10 to 20 pounds heavier.
