No one can tell me with a straight face being fully serious “Jiri could’ve fought that one out” Jiri wouldn’t have fought for several months if they let them continue. Right hook, left hook, a dozen of elbows to the head and would’ve turned to ground n pound if it continued. The sequence I remember that made Jones relinquish the belt : Following his first title defense against Cormier, he tested positive for cocaine before the fight. They were due for a rematch, and Cormier was ready, but Jones tested positive for steroids. This pushed back the date and year of their rematch. Following their rematch and another title defense, Jones again tested positive for steroids. He entertained the idea that someone laced his food, but at that point everyone was kind of in agreement Jones is unreliable. But he wins fights.

UFC were supposed to put the Jones vs Guf 2 fight. The first one they showed was a tittle defense years ago.

You missed the best part of allthose fights: Randy Couture really wacking Vitor Belfort like I have never seen anyone being pounded before or after, holding his neck and digging in his face, that was some payback for almost ripping one of eyes off, what a beating, so much so that Belfort gave up.

The golden age era of the LHW was absolutely brutal. Almost all champions got flat-lined losing their belts due to just bleed refs and lack of technical defense.

So many finishes! For a very long time, LHW was the deepest division in the UFC and had the most star power. Heres hoping jiri or poatan hold the strap for the foreseeable future. Best representations of the div when looking at current roster

Man those early 2000s days of Chuck and Randy were the days. Before bones came along and dominated the next decade. Back then they only had 1 ppv every couple of months so it was so big. I’ll say todays fights are more entertaining though, there was a lot of boring wrestling matches back then I went nuts watching my boy shogun KO machida for the belt back in college. But on the flip side was so hurt seeing Chuck KO’d by rampage and shogun absolutely dominated by bones lol
