Ken was never the same after the Don Frye fight. They lost some health and life after that war. Going back even further, Ken (in my opinion) spent his all his energy and peak years in WWF. A pretty unsuccessful return to MMA after that.

Agreed and well put. Hindsight being 20/20, it's interesting to think how Ken's career would've turned out had he came over to wrestling AFTER finishing his peak competition years in MMA. With many in the WWE having success well into their 40's (Lesnar, Taker, Hogan, etc) Ken could've been a bigger star than he was, possibly continuing to today.

Idk about unsuccessful return, he looked great against Otsuka and Fujita before the mysterious stoppage and gave MMA one of the best fights of all time vs Frye in which he deserved the decision, took on the best 205lb fighter Tito Ortiz and lasted 4 hard rounds not many wouldve, KO'd Kimo who had fought prime Bob Sapp tooth and nail a few months before. The first fight where Ken looked shot was Rich Franklin. Tito was the one that he took too many shots from, Frye mainly hit him to the body, Tito almost exclusively the head.
Tell us another Jackal story Tito

3 times Shamrock was past his prime also. Not saying Tito wouldn't have beaten him in his prime. He may or may not have. But what was the point of Tito disrespecting and instigating a fight with a legend who was past his prime. Instead of showing some respect as he should have.

What are you talking about? Herb Dean is known for always stepping in as early as possible. I always expect an "early stoppage" whenever he's the referee. He may have a few "Late stoppages" on his record, but he's not Yamasaki or Mazzagatti.
Tito was a beast back then
I love these og bouts.🐸🍺🔪🔥
5 consecutive elbows, Ken didn't even try to bring a hand up to defend himself. It's over man, that was the correct call to stop the fight.
Love SHAMROCK never was afraid of anyone on the planet and was always up for a challenge. True legend.

Upset isn't even the word I was livid. And yes Ken is a hall of famer one of the Pioneers of the sport and an absolute legend. Tito Is a legend in the sport also. However he disrespected and antagonized another Legend who was passes prime to get that way. In the worst part about it. Is that he didn't even have to. He was elite talent who was bound for greatness already. His rivalry with Ken for me taints his career and just made me dislike him. Regardless of talent.
Tito is a legend
Sometimes older fighters don’t know when it’s time to hang it up
ALWAYS READY!!
Ken probably thanked Herb backstage for allowing Ken to earn some easy money and not get seriously hurt. Tito’s gnp back then was almost unstoppable.
Incomprehensive stoppage.
People were upset at the time thinking it was an early stoppage but this was absolutely the right call. Had Herb Dean not stepped in Ken would have gotten an even worse beating. Ken wasn't protecting himself at that point and would have just suffered more damage.
What a coincidence. I’m almost finished watching through TUF 3 on fight pass.

Ken no acepto la derrota
This is where the "story about the jackal" originated
Ref did what he was supposed to. Protect his brain from injury
I don't know if Ken would have ever been able to beat Tito even when younger and at 100% health. People make so much fun of Tito now, but they forget that during this point in time, Tito was an absolute killer. Ken hung tough for the entire first fight against Tito, but he came into that fight with so many injuries and I believe he was already past his best. The Don Frye fight took years off his career, IMO. Tito 2 he really didn't have a chance unless somehow he could have KO'd Tito in the opening moments, and by Tito 3, Ken was totally finished IMO as a top fighter. Much respect to both guys though for sure.

Possibly the greatest thumbnail in UFC history! The fact that Tito can see Shamrock's ass from that angle is just amazing!
and from that moment on Herb Dean would go on to make sure every fight goes on an extra 20 unanswered strikes than necessary
It's like Kens got a secret. 😂
Ken was by far not beaten, what a shame ... he stood up without hesitation .... that is 100% clear ....
"Early stoppage. Stoppage was great though but I also hated the early stoppage"- Dana W.
Real men ... No Sterling sheet
Quick stoppage yes but Ken wasn't going to protect himself from the elbows and ground and pound. That was a good and safe stoppage. ''Protect yourself at ALL TIME!''.
Red did the right thing by stopping the fight. Ken wasn’t defending himself, couldn’t even cover tye blows
A good stop. He was not defending himself.
Frank Shamrock was possibly the best all around brawler in mma history, Ken was top 15.
To bad Ken wasn't 10 years younger. MMA had changed to much for him by the time he had this fight. Good stoppage to, Tito was gonna rearrange his face. Better safe than sorry. If someone would've got seriously injured in those early years MMA wouldn't be a semi legitimate sport today
Tito just makes me🤣🤣🤣
That stoppage was terrible tbh
The beautiful days of unadulterated steroid abuse.
Remind you folks. This organization was built on this fight. Never forget
Good decision by Herb
Ken was acting like what?? I was fine... dude wasn't defending and if Herb let it go another 10 seconds, Shamroid would've been sleeping with a concave face.
