PETITION: Even if Tony loses against Gaethje, he should have the right to go against the winner between Khabib-Gaethje. He didn't have to take this fight but did it for the fans. He won 12 times in a row. If Romero can lose 3 times in a row and then "fight" for the title, Tony definitely deserves this chance.

Sadly that's not the way it works. Tony has huge balls for doing this but it definitely isn't the smart decision. IMO Gaethje is a far riskier fight for Tony than Khabib is also. I seriously doubt we will ever see Tony vs Khabib.

Suhayb Yones it is a riskier fight, because loosing against Khabib would mean still having a shot again for the interim belt, and possibly another shot at the title; on the other hand winning against Gaethje won’t give him the title and loosing would be very costly as it might take a while before having another chance.

well said sir. Tony ran through the lightweight division and did the Champ's job of beating contender after contender. After slaughtering Barboza he already deserved a title shot but he didnt get it. From then he beat Vannata, Dos anjos, Lee, Pettis and Cerrone, capturing interim gold in the process got stripped for NO FCKING REASON (only pulled out from ONE fight) and never got his opportunity to prove he was the best in the world. Truly and embarassment situation from the ufc and it sucks cause he is my fav fighter. CSO

@@mp0039 What they should've done was strip Conor, promote Tony (cuz he deserved it) and make Khabib vs. Iaquinta for interim since it was for a belt. Then have Tony face Khabib (if that were even possible, cuz of the curse), then make Conor wait for whoever comes out on top, cuz WE ALL KNOW to this day that Prime Tony had the best chance against Khabib. And now he's being fed to Chandler instead of fighting Conor, the guy who ruined the lightweight division for a year and a half.

Tony Ferguson is the last fighter on the roster I want to be in the cage with if I'm rocked or dazed. How he was able to think so fast in fights and put it all together was just a thing of pure beauty. Flowing and just dancing to his own rhythm. When he wanted to hit you he would use AMAZING NEXT LEVEL FOOTWORK to manipulate your stance and you were getting hit with an elbow or straight.

I haven't left Tony's wagon. The heart of a true warrior beats in that man's chest. His eccentric personality is what makes him him. It's too bad it probably cost him his Khabib fight. He wanted to do it for the fans so much that while on a 12 fight winning streak, lined up to finally get his dream fight, he takes a last minute match up that doesn't favor him at all. He risks it all to fight an incredible defensive wrestler with impeccable hand-speed and power. This, after training for years now to fight someone who's game plan is to out wrestle you against a fence and beat on you. Tony didn't get to use any of those skills he trained on his back or to defend the takedowns. All that time that could have been prioritized to deal with stand up work and making a game plan for Justin. But if that wasn't bad enough, he's so foolhardy that he cuts weight twice just for the sake of it and compromises himself beforehand. Tony could have refused the fight and waited for Khabib. Nobody could blame him for that if he did. If anything, that would have been a smart decision. But that's not Tony. When I watched that fight I was devestated, but not just because my dog was losing, but after that 3rd round I felt like someone should have been there to save their fighter. By the end I wasn't sure if he could ever fight the same way again. He couldn't just go unconscious, and so he kept walking into the fire. Now we may never get to see him like he was again, and we'll certainly never get to see that Khabib fight. A tragic bookmark in his career, but man what a journey to watch over the years since he won The Ultimate Fighter. I won't say it's the end yet, because if anyone could come back from that it would be him. This is a man who gets ACL surgery and fights 6 months later. Not my overall all time fav, but definitely stylistically my favorite fighter to watch ever. There will never be another Tony Ferguson. We'll be here when you're back El Cucuy! UPDATE: Tony survives 5 rounds with a completely compromised arm with Oliviera. This man is willing to let someone destroy his arm in order to persevere and win. Nothing but heart from Tony. I hope he takes a longer time off after this loss.

tbh i think hes what happens when one is too mentally tough. Cutting weight twice, working out six hours a day, the fact that he never gave up and kept coming during the Gaethje fight, all that shows his decline. What made him the man who could have beaten Khabib, the crazy guy, what gave him his next-level cardio, unpredictable style, crazy chin and toughness and eccentric personality, is sadly also why he's on such a decline. I want him to fight COnor next. Not because of any bs like rankings, title shots etc, but because I want him to get a massive payday b4 he retires. For his own sake. I think Conor's going to out-point him because we all know he can't knock Tony out, but Tony's past his prime and wont be able to do anything. Yeah. I want him to retire for his sake

@@wergar_the_warwolf6834 While I agree with everything else you're saying, I feel like two losses doesn't necessitate the assumption of a decline in the fighter. Tony is still dangerous for anyone at lightweight if (and this is a big if) he takes some actual time out to recover. I think he needs to fight with a crowd present as well. You give Tony that, and I'd hedge my bets on him vs McGregor if they would do us all the favor of making that match up. Connor had the privilege of being able to avoid fighting him up to now, and I think with Tony coming off his two losses, this is when he'd seem like a demoralized opponent that would be easier to take out. These two defeats have created a narrative, but I still believe that the boogie man hasn't gone anywhere and he's trouble for anyone who would lock themselves in a cage with him.

@@yourmackdaddy9395 Eh.. Even during the cowboy fight. IN R2 it was a borderline 10-8, don't get me wrong, but he usually comes out way faster. Like, R1 was close and it shouldn't have been. Tony's no bum, like any up and comer shouldn't sleep on him, but still... I dunno, he looked old and slow in the Charles fight, almost like his body just wouldn't do what the mind wanted. He could mitigate the decline with some time off but let's be honest ur fucking crazy if you think he's gonna do that(much to both your and I's chagrin) He's still trouble, and guys can't sleep on him, but he's no longer the guy who can smash Khabib, is what I'm saying.

@@wergar_the_warwolf6834 I don't know if he ever could have "smashed" Khabib. But I think he stood a better chance of doing the deed than many, and after having so much time to prepare for that fight through all the cancellations, I think he was lined up to cause some serious trouble. Those slicing elbows could stop the fight if he managed to cut khabib badly enough or in such a way where he couldn't see to fight. He's trickier off his back than most. He's incredibly durable, mentally and physically. He never gives up on himself, he has cardio for days, slept on one-hit knockout power, maybe the best chin in the sport, and he is self motivated beyond belief. It is a tragedy that it never came to be. In the Charles fight he didn't look like himself. You could say he looked old and slow, but I think that loss to Justin probably messed his head up physically and mentally. Damage like that has to take a serious toll on your life. But I think something about not having the crowd there and coming back so soon off his first loss after a 12 fight win streak could have had a major effect on his performance. The crowd factor is no joke. For a fighter that's used to that and gets fired up from it, it can be a real disadvantage.

@M Harish Hugged him to a decision? We obviously weren't watching the same fight. He completely dominated Woodley from start to finish and threw almost 400 strikes. And the Covington fight wasn't a war just because of animosity, they were both incredibly high-level wrestlers and didn't want to chance grappling with each other, so it stayed on the feet. Usman's output and power won him that fight.
