it was definitely career changing. Munoz went 2-3 for the rest of his career with those 2 wins coming to Tim Boetsch & Luke Barnatt. Munoz was such a good fighter honestly. I'm sure that stoppage didn't help his career long term

You said it right "was" he'll never hold another UFC title as long as he is competing. The division is very tough and Weidman doesn't have what it takes to beat the top guys.

I don't think he was ever champ level good. Got lucky to get silva right when he stopped fighting seriously and more for fun in the first fight, and the second was pure luck. Got koed by cuckhold, another lucky champ

Chris Weidman is a UFC legend, one of my favorite fighters, really humble, respectful guy, he had a amazing reign as MW champ, loved the way he beat Anderson Silva back in 2013 and his incredible title defense against Lyoto Machida in 2014, good memories 😊

@@hardowider5054 Recency bias, before his chin got destroyed by Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero Chris Weidman was an outstanding Middleweight and solid Champion. He was the perfect foil to Anderson Silva and in my opinion could have posed significant problems for Israel Adesanya. The crowning achievement of his career will forever be shocking the world knocking out Anderson Silva and capturing the strap.
The first one was hella brutal!!

He was obviously knocked out by the elbow.. the rest was just bad ref not stopping the fight. Maybe 1 or 2 shots on the ground ok but that was wayyyyy too much..

Weidman knocking out Silva is still one of the most shocking things I've ever seen in MMA. I saw that live, and you had the feeling that something like that was gonna happen eventually. Silva was doing WAY too much clowning around, and I remember yelling for him to stop it before he got knocked out. And it happened. I couldn't believe it.

It was Silva vs Maia all over again with the showboating. Only this time Silva was facing someone who could actually take him down and strike, he totally disregarded Weidman's patience and power.

I still cannot get over how weird his knockout loss against Jacare was. The way he shut off so intensely, but with delay, was as scary as it was interesting.

In a fight that was really competitive, his loss to romero was brutal as well but the fight was tied up until that point he just got caught

It was a great fight, too bad it was ruined by Dan Miragliotta sleeping on the job. Jacare understandably wasn't happy he had to land follow up shots on Chris who was already out.

It looks worse than it is because the initial elbow opened a cut. He was still somewhat in there intelligently defending blocking with his arm for a while. If refs stopped fights at the first sight of blood, Nate Diaz's career would be over immediately.

Just the other day i realized Weidman was fighting and was looking forward to it. Since he lost the title he lost 5 of his last 6 fight by TKO/KO but i always felt like there was a way for him to come back. In Souza fight his boxing was looking sharp, Romero and Rockhold bouts were very close (he was even winning some of those). In all his losses except for Reyes fight he was competitive. Then i checked his Wikipedia the other day and realized hes 36... Time flies. Hope he wins this one but than retires.

I haven't seen him finish anyone as brutally as he has been finished either. Romero, Jacare, Rockhold, Reyes, and Mousasi did an incredible amount of damage to Weidmans brain. Hell, I remember watching Romero vs Weidman live and thinking Weidman would be comatose after eating that knee.

Aaron B Ppl always think it’s showboating when it’s not. It’s head games. A lot of fighters will do antics just to lull you to sleep, even the best. Anderson did that to a lot of his opponents and beat them. Just bc it didn’t work one time, doesn’t mean it’s a bad tactic or bad sportsmanship.

Weidman was the most promising fighter at that time, then a series of mini injuries and catastrophes buried this man career, hopefully we will come back
The first stoppage made Yamasaki proud.

Munhoz's brain nearly came out of his skull, early stoppage he was still breathing.
First fight was stopped early, he could have taken 35 more punches

Herb Dean is the GOAT of Refereeing, that guy is not given enough credit for saving lives in the Octagon. I have watched so many fights and I have seen his unique talent in seeing what people around can't see, you have to replay the video to be able to see it, he stops fights in a very timely manner. He is the P4P Refree
Chris Weidman, Luke Rockhold, James Vick & Chuck Liddell the Mount Rushmore of the Shadow Realm. Legend has it their consciousnesses can still be seen fighting there to this day.

When Anderson broke his leg he saw it and went out celebrating the victory, now he broke it in the same place, is it a Kharma? Or the law of action and reaction? Impressive to see the same scene. His opponent was respectful and concerned, very different from Weideman's attitude against Anderson Silva. here you do, here you pay.
