What made him so effective in the first fight was his composure, here he was definitely emotional and made it easy for aljo to take him down, meanwhile in the first fight he was just so composed that aljo couldn't do much. Aljo had many times where he put both his hands on the ground. He already clearly won the 5th round so it was an obvious 2-2, making the 1st round the toss up. Why not go for a 10-8 or at least a finish when you are guaranteed a 10-9 already? Being that confident that the 1st round was Petr was a mistake. That round was wayyyy to close. I don't think that's the case. Imo It was that one of the judges gave 3rd/4th round 8-10 in favour of Sterling. Kinda understandable Still a very close fight regardless, decision could have been in favour of anyone. It sucks from Petr's perspective, he very much had the first fight in the bag. I didn't think that Sterling should had been made champion but now he proved many people wrong. Hope Yan bounces back and gets a rematch.

It's really not BS, the first round was super close, but just going by the stats Aljo actually did have more strikes and more significant strikes that round, which is going to come first and foremost in judging criteria--wasn't a huge difference, but still enough to get the round and secure the W in a razor thin fight.

I was rooting for Yan but that was a very impressive performance/adjustment from Aljo. He didn't really do much w/ his back takes (which says more about Petr's defensive abilities) and Yan definitely was winning the stand up exchanges thereafter...but rnd 1 was a toss up, can't really be mad for that decision, bc it was razor thin. I hope these two fight many more times. I think Yan F'ed up by not employing his own offensive wrestling sooner. It seemed that whoever managed to get the dominant grappling position could keep it there. Yan will return stronger than ever w/ the right game plan.

If anyone knows MMA and the way the fights are scored, it would be clear to see that Yan won the fight. Round 1 went to him due to his “octagon control”; he applied pressure on Aljo and was dictating the pace of the fight. Both did not throw much and therefore, the winner of the round should have been whoever controlled the octagon. Round 2 and 3 go to Aljo without a shadow of a doubt; he nearly had 8 mins of control time and dominated Yan like we have never seen before, so hats off to him. Round 4 and 5 were dominant by Yan, with 5:30 mins of control time and landing a good amount of significant strikes. Adding on, the last two rounds of a five round fight are labelled as “championship rounds”, meaning that they are the ones that hold the most weight. Jones vs Reyes is a great example; Jones lost the first three and then won the final two, which granted him the victory. And are we not going to talk about the 2/22 takedown attempts by Aljo. Surely the gives points to Yan on the scorecards for stuffing 20 takedowns!

All he did was stick to the back like a backpack. Yan was stronger in the hand position fight. He even had some strikes in aljo's face. All aljo did was keeping Yan from getting up and punsh aljo in the face. You could say he won those rounds but it wasn't impressive. I was more impressed by Yan that he didn't get finished in those rounds. Overall, Yan was more agressive and in the fifth round aljo was looking desperate. No one would seriously say Aljo won that fight. Guess these are just hard time to ne russian in America.

@@empressraven are you smoking? yan stuffed 20 takedowns, and didn’t let that one trick pony get a choke off. then got up and hunted him down again. whilst aljo was spamming takedowns

It’s awesome to see Peter barely out of breathe with no damage done. Sterling did nothing to intimidate or put this guy out. Just did a great job making it look like his wrestling and jui jitsu were affective. Smoke and mirrors.

I was wondering when I'd see the day Petr's habit of making reads in the 1st round will come back to bite him. Perhpas he will be more active from here on out sooner.

Definitely didn't win 2nd, seemed like Aljo is the one who made all the adjustments 😮

@@chessgains8075 Nah no chance. 10-8 requires inflicting heavy damage as well as holding a dominant position. Aljo had the position but was doing no damage.

Aljo would make easy work of TJ Petr is just a defensive monster on the ground. But aljo would tap out TJ quite easily

If there is one thing that i have learnt about a championship match, it would be that you have to leave zero doubts that you beat the champion. If it has to be debated or the match is close chances are that it will go to the champ.
