He's right though. Dustin was pawing with the jab and loading up too much on his back hand. The shot that dropped him was shorter, straighter and came of more of a proper jab. Which is why it dropped him (along with changing stance). You can change how you throw punches in a second, Joe just pointed out a mistake just as Dustin corrected it. Unless he was loading up as a set up to catch Green of guard when getting to the target quicker..

I was always a fan, but I defo hear what you saying. The MMA community at large slept on this man forever. I did not, I always believed in my fellow southerner. They don't come much tougher than Louisiananans, and I'm originally from Florida, so that's high praise cause we generally hate them (football rivalry - LSU-Florida)

Dustin may not have the "titles" but he does have enough heads mounted on his wall to be in the UFC HoF 1st balllot 10x over. Conor McGregor 2x. Poirer went from an exciting but inconsistent fighter to a guy who delivers an absolute avalanche of crushing offense. His accuracy and timing during finishes is incredible

@@RickChavo Yeah but tbf, a lot of fighters have the cage to save them, but they still get dropped and KO’d. Max doesn’t get dropped because he has an iron chin. 24 UFC fights, only 29. Dude didn’t have safe fights in other organizations like every other fighter did. 4 Pro fights, straight to the UFC at 19 and fought #4 ranked Dustin Porier on month notice. 24 UFC fights never dropped. Legit greatest chin of all time.

Even If it gets on the ground its not bad for dp because he can hold his own when it comes to ground game and oliveira has made some questionable decisions in the past which has got him in trouble but he's the better grappler . Even in striking Charles is a better kicker than dp but it's the boxing and heart of the diamond which is the problem for olives. Although Charles is a good counter puncher he does not move his head laterally which could get him in trouble like the chandler fight. And we all know how good poiriers finishing instincts are..

honestly, if I were to take on the ideal form of an mma fighter as a lightweight it would be Dustin Poirier. A great human being, humble, talented and has had longevity in the sport with a great winning record.

Really can't dislike this guy. Glad he finally gets the recognition he deserves.

The amount of pressure he puts on his opponents literally makes them fold, it's really amazing to watch.

You cannot show any sign of weakness against him otherwise he will absolutely melt you. When he's going for that finish his striking is unrelenting and flows together beautifully, you don't get any breaks to circle out or move your head.

That's why Felder wasn't the best striker. He had so much potential as an athlete but his fighting IQ wasn't the best. Conor doesn't handle pressure well. He can counter his opponents if they try to pressure him but what happens when Conor gasses out? We all know Conor gives up when he's tired. If he doesn't KO Poirier early he's getting knocked out again 100%

Dustin's career has been insane. Fought Khabib for the title, avenged his loss and KO'd Conor McGregor, TKO'd Justin Gaethje, beat Max Holloway twice in two divisions, stopped Eddie Alvarez twice, had a great fight with Korean Zombie, has never lost two in a row and is now on his way to a trilogy with Conor McGregor. Crazy ✊

Dustin is one of the calmest fighters in the ring. Ive become a huge fan over the last couple years. Hes highly talented

His punches are insanely accurate, fast & hold so much power. I think he is most deadly when he smells blood, he just goes for the kill

Dustin beat the who of whose of his time. He'll be remembered for a very long time. A future hall of Famer fosho.

I agree. Outside Khabib, Poirier is the top dog. Solidified his name. Any other era but Khabib's and this guy is the best easy - now that Khabib retired Poirier is proving he's the best. Can't wait to see who twins the fight with Charles. Going to be a great one. I think Poirier has a long overdue belt heading his way.

Bro he already deserved the title shot before fighting McGregor 2, he just opted to get the money fight(s) first then aim for the title. I don't think he's worried at all who he is facing.

My introduction to Dustin was his absolute bar burner of a fight with The Korean Zombie. Dustin came up short in that fight but my respect for him grew massive. He was still young at the time and gave everything in that fight, dude is the epitome of what a fighter should want to be.

That mounted triangle armbar finish over Holloway is one of my favorite submission finishes.

Dustin is a beast man his career just started I can't wait to watch him really get to work 🔥🔥

I think the biggest addition to Dustin’s game is his striking defence & evasion. It allows him to use the talent he always had in a much more methodical manner.

Dustin got to be one of the best well rounded fighters ever.

The Korean Zombie v Poirier was one of the best fights in UFC history.

Dustins accuracy is insane man. It’s hard to even tell when his punches land they are so low on the chin.

Hes so good at staying composed Especially when he hurts his opponent...cant wait for this title fight its a fight between 2 underdogs who climbed their way to the top..i love it

This is a true champion. A man in and outside of the cage. He's as good on his feet as he is on the ground and when he isn't TKOing people he's helping children in need.

@@joej9904 he may not have unified before, but he's beaten at least 4 former champions, one of them for the interim lightweight championship

Dustin is truly the pinnacle a fighter can be, had so many obstacles to over come, got knocked out by Conor, zombie, Michael Johnson and through all the adversity he’s risen to be one of the baddest men on the planet all through hard work, I’ve loved watching him grow over the years and also he’s never in boring fights!

I really did think he was going to be a 10-15 fighter for the rest of his career after the michael johnson knockout though.

I love this guy. As his career has gone on he's matured into an awesome person. His early days I wasn't sure about him but he's one of the best people in the fight game for what he does inside and outside. I got pretty emotional for him when he lost to Khabib and I'm a Khabib fan. The Diamond is gonna win this trilogy imo

In a sport filled with larger than life figures, Dustin has always struck me as a regular working class dude, someone you could meet at a bar and have a few beers with. He’s gotten nothing handed to him and worked his way up with blood, sweat and tears. How can I not root for him

@@peterk2735 He hasn't been promoted by the UFC because he doesn't talk trash and he's too "boring". But real fans know what's up. Dustin is the champ of the people who watch MMA for the fight skill instead of the drama.

Watching these I notice how fast he position his legs to frow heavy punches and if you have your back against the fence he will finish you. First time watching these guy well what a fighter.

Dustin’s game changed when he slowed down and selected shots. He was always deadly on the ground. Now, he’s more well rounded.

@@deanlean366 he trains with ALOT of fighters before they enter the ufc, if they ever even does. He knows alot of shit about alot of unknown fighters.

The way he finished Alvarez is almost in sync with how he finished Mcgregor

Dustin is such a beast every time he has someone rocked he gets to Dumping 👊🏼 never in a boring fight

Something many noticed about Dustin Poirier, The longer the rounds goes, The betting he performs, Even against Khabib in the 2nd he clipped Khabib and in the 3rd round he almost finished him. Gotta respect that.

Haven't been a UFC fan.. but am falling in love with this Porier guy.. amazing

This guy striking is so precise. That kind of cirurgical flury just erase opponents. It's not one power shot. It's he's skill of adding them up at different angles and body targets. He did that with Eddie, Justin and Conor. They tried to fight back but they were helpless...

"Dustin is loading up here Mike, and that's a mistake"... Annnnnd knockout :D

Its crazy how many notable wins Poirier has under is belt and is just now starting to get the respect he deserves.

Like I've been saying, conor is no where near Dustin's level. He got a win over a young, small poirier. He beat a rookie. He's never getting that win back.

Well put. It's a storybook relationship really. Young, brash, arrogant Conor with a dramatic rise and fall. Meanwhile, Poirier quietly putting in the work in the background eventuallly reaches those same heights, puts down his old rival, and comes out with much greater longevity and respect from the community. Buddy has been running his charity since long before it was cool.

jose aldo wasn't a rookie, and niether was eddie alvarez when he smoked him. conor is currently washed up but that doesn't discredit his achievements as an athlete.

@@blackballs4796 It's a bit of an exaggeration, but there's definitely some truth in it when compared to other elite fighters. Compared to Dustin there's no question Conor has less heart, Conor can't go through a war the way Dustin can, Dustin even looks like he enjoys it. The only time I've seen Conor show some heart is Diaz 2 and even then he was running for a lot of the fight

@@blackballs4796 Mendes took the fight on a weeks notice, Conor just had to weather the storm until Chad's cardio ran out and it was an easy knock out. Against khabib it was gruelling and khabib was pressuring the whole fight but Conor wasn't getting hit with solid punches that would rock him other than the knock down one, but that didnt really hurt him, he was just expecting the takedown but got caught instead. He did succumb to khabibs pressure though "it's only business", then giving his back in the 4th. Compare that to Iaquinta's fight who stayed in it despite getting beaten up the whole fight. Lol sure you can say he doesn't need the heart of a starving lion, but against Dustin Conor needs to knock him out in the first round otherwise he'll need much more heart than he has now. Why do you think Conor is saying he'll knock him out in the first round? He's smart, he knows the more it goes to the later rounds the more it becomes a war, and he doesn't like that which is what the original comment was getting at

Conor getting up and trying to jump the cage after khabib fight amd taking on khabibs brother and team mate showed he has more heart than you and your family

Dustin's combos are sick.. 🔥

A lot of the fighters he beat were talented. It took him a lot to sharpen his tools. But he’s gifted with KO power so it makes a huge difference. He’s fighting an extremely gifted fighter in Oliviera, another exceptional student of the sport. Both deserves the Championship.

That Gaethje TKO is so satisfying.

i think every fighter is sone kind of psycho. I wouldn’t be able to beat some random people with anger. And they do it brutally

Dustin will always be my favorite fighter. No matter what round, he just keep on throwing punches.
