That was when each PPV was an event. All big names. All known fighters. Much better than every other day a bunch of unknowns fighting.
I always looked forward to their fights. There was so much animosity behind the scenes that they both always brought 100%, and never disappointed the fans.
The early 2000’s gotta love it.
This was the beginning of the golden era of the UFC. What a ride it was! I was lucky enough to enjoy these fights without the circus it is today. This is when you had to fight your way to the top of the rankings and EARN your shot at the title.

I met Mr. Tito Ortiz actually when I was in Mosul, Iraq in 2007-2009. He and another fighter came as a part of a USO tour. They not only let us each get a picture with them, they gave us a signed mini poster also. Now, he looks pretty big on TV… But in real life? OH MY GOD… His head was literally the size of my chest, and his hand was so big? When we shook hands, my hand entirely disappeared into his cinderblock-sized hands. They were both very generous and kind when I met them, so I give both of them all the credit in the world for going to Mosul, Iraq in 2007-2009 to support us troops 🙏🇺🇸

I remember watching Tito and Ken on the Ultimate Fighter. Great times. I remember before their first matchup, most mma fans thought that Ken Shamrock would destroy Tito, even though he was older. Everyone knew what Frank did to Tito a few years earlier, but Tito was just a different beast by the time he fought Ken, plus Ken was older, and smaller. Prime Tito was scary.
This was one of the worst beat downs I have ever seen in the UFC. Tito literally disfigured Ken.

"Ken Shamrock's got the heart of a lion!" Wow, wearing his ass for a hat.
Crazy to think I’ve been watching this sport for over 20 years now.. getting old 😂
Shamrock really had to get battered for 30 minutes with Don Frye, and a few months later, out of him prime, UFC says “you know what, Tito owned him the last two times they met, let’s make them fight again!”
The first of three battles in this legendary back and forth, extremely competitive, trilogy where each fight could have gone either way.

Por Tito empecé a entrenar MMA FROM by Tito Ortiz 15 year
Ken Shamrock has a gym here in San Diego and one time me and my kids walked into a restaurant and Ken Shamrock was there. I shook his hand and my son looked up at him and said, "Where's your neck?"
Pelea muy muy desigual.
Ken Shamrock was definitely past his prime by this time, and Ortiz was a faster, stronger, more rounded opponent, than the ones he faced in the 90s. The original one dimensional, single skilled fighters didn’t do too well as the sport evolved.
