    Thank you Tony for all you have given to the sport. I know you will probably never read this, or even if you read this you will never even contemplate about what I wanna say because of your 'Never Give Up' attitude, but with a heavy heart I still have to say it, its probably time to retire. You have done so many great things in the octagon and kept entertaining us fans for over a decade under the UFC banner, and I have been watching you since the RDA fight when you were at your absolute prime, which was an absolutely surreal introduction to a monster boogeyman that was destined to be great, the 'prime' Tony Ferguson. Though a lot of stuff happened over the past two and a half years which led you to never realize your undisputed championship dreams, but you never failed to give all you have and try to put on a show for us fans no matter what tough circumstances you have gone through. For such dedication even in such tough times, I absolutely tip my hat to you. Still, it really pains my heart to say this to you, a reality which I have been trying to run away from nearly two years because you are such a favourite fighter of mine and such a legend of the sport in general, but today I have to say it, you are not the same fighter anymore. The surreal athleticism you used to have, the unbelievable pressure, the never ending cardio, the insane recovery, the inscrutable and deadly elbows and knees and the unorthodox ground game which were the stuff of nightmares for so many of your opponents, its all a relic of the past and in your recent performances you have looked like a shadow of your prime self, the 'prime boogeyman' Tony Ferguson who had the best chance of taking the belt away from Khabib. I know you did not get the undisputed belt, or hell even your very well deserved shot at it after an epic 12 fight win streak in which we saw you beat some of the best lightweights of your era, I still believe that you have nothing left to prove to the world. You are a tough SOB with a 'Never Give Up, Keep Fighting' attitude, you have given your all to the fans, the UFC and to the combat sports in general and your epic 12 fight win streak in which we saw things which we never expected a fighter could bring to the table and all these things despite you never getting a crack at the undisputed championship, I don't know if it means much to you, a true 'Champion' in us fans' hearts. But as I said before, at 38 years old, with declining athleticism which was the trademark of your style, I don't see any profit in abusing your body for us fans anymore in going up against these young and hungry upcoming monsters, when your body won't allow you to perform at the same level you used to in your prime. You have taken an unreal amount of punishment in your last 5 fights, the type of damage which most of us normal people won't even live through, but you took it like a champ and gave your best to rebound and perform well again to the best of your abilities. But a time comes when you have to ask, 'Is it worth taking all this punishment in fights which are hard to win, and even more so considering my age and declining body? What effects will this damage have on me in pets say next 10 or 20 years'? Please think about your lovely family at home, your wife and son Armand whose heart pains seeing you take so much damage and lose every single fight you recently have been in. And for us fans, it will also pain us to see a legend like you go, but in hindsight it is the lesser of the two evils as to seeing you getting dominated by younger hungrier competition again. I know the acceptance of the reality of getting old and declining when you never got the chance to realize your dreams due to unfortunate circumstances when you were young and the regret which comes along with it is hard, but this is life man and I believe you have to move forward towards a brighter future instead of focusing on the regretful unfortunate past and those unachieved dreams which were never meant to be. And for my final thoughts (sorry this comment is too long, damn me the tears won't stop rolling down my eyes), I wish you the one and only legend 'The Boogeyman of the Lightweight Division' Tony 'El Cucuy' Ferguson nothing but the best for your future endeavours and no matter what path you choose, I know it will be for us fans' best interests and I bow my hat down to you as a great human being and a legend of the sport and martial arts in general. Thank you for everything you have done for us fans, Tony!

  • @Jojafox

    @Jojafox

    I agree with pretty much all your remarks, but wanna add that he's not even getting beaten by much younger guys anymore. Chandler is only two years younger than him, Nate is pretty much his age. Chandler front-kicked him to eternity and back - even though Tony admittedly looked decent in the first round - and then he tried to fight Leech, one of the hardest punchers in the Welterweight division, only a few months after that harsh knockout, only to be pretty much dominated by Nate Diaz on his way out of the UFC. It's also fucking scary that he seems to think of this as a good performance and that he still can compete with the top guys if he just fixes a few mistakes, because that means he's not planning on stopping anytime soon.

    Love Tony, but I thought this was the perfect moment to retire. This was a very winnable fight for Tony at this stage of his career and he looked slow out there. It's hard watching your favorite fighters go on losing streaks at the end of their careers.

    I’ve been watching tony fight for years. A huge fan. He’s given us many memorable performances. At this point though, I feel like the time has come for him to retire. Like others have said, imagine if he had fought with the leech tonight. I wish him the best, but I hope he calls it quits before taking too much damage.
