@@MuscleMan400 I think Jon slightly won. Most sources had Jon winning. About 60% did, but very very close, which is why it could have went either way. Jones was the champ though and winning at the end so he deserved it for sure. He didn't even train for this fight. He was drinking and partying. When didn't know his opponents, he wouldn't take it seriously and not train a lot of the time. Alex was not known much at all here. After this though, everyone knew him.

I saw Gustaf win the first 3 rounds, lose the 4th after a late push from Jon, and lose the 5th due to his exhaustion. This is how I saw it 10 years ago, and I see it the same today as 3-2. 10 years later and no question Jon is the better fighter, but Gustaf was the better fighter on this night. @@ThatNorwegianGuy- Very biased. You can easily say Jones won, although I suspect your opinion. Jones won the 4th very very easily. How can you say the 4th was close, but the first 3 rounds weren't? You can definitely give Jones round 2 or even other early rounds. You can't ever give Alex round 4, that isn't even arguable. Most sources had Jon winning, about 60%. I respect anyone saying Alex won though, but don't be biased on the rounds, be real. It was a very very good fight. Jon barely knew him at the time, and didn't train once, which was a mistake. They gave Alex a rematch later for good reason, he deserved it. When Jon trained though, it was very very brutal for Alex and his fans unfortunately, but I think many saw that coming.

I've tried to be as unbiased in the watching of this fight many times. I still have Gus winning the first 3 rds. The 2nd was close, but Gus just looked to have the advantage in the striking, landing the better punches and accumulating more damage. Even in the 4th rd although Jon landed some beautiful spinning attacks, Gus appeared more tired than he was hurt. He still owned 80% of that round. A lot of Jon's kicks were checked throughout and imo with minimal effect. Two legends, but Gus won this fight.

I try to be unbiased too, and I have Jon winning, but I can see how you have Gus winning the 2nd. I feel like 60% had Jon winning, this was an extremely close fight, and it could be argued that either one of them won. I'm not sure the judges would have given it to him anyway, just based on the fact Jon was getting the better of him at the end, and they want you to show that you could have continued on and won that fight vs the champion. At least you're unbiased though. So many were biased in favor of either Jon or Alex, and they weren't watching the fight properly. Glad you were fair in your assessment.

I don't know how either side can say definitely, because this was a close fight if you look at it without bias. First time seeing Jon get taken down, regardless if he was right back up, that singular moment brought a sense of anyhing can happen. That was a brief but powerful few seconds. Especially with Jon having the blood roll down his face too. Not a single other person Jon ever fought in the UFC presented him the sort of potential for trouble as Gustaffson did. Nobody. It was almost as if he was fighting his physical equal but a guy with exceptionally different style that Jon was used to. Alex had that special combinstion of technique style talent power etc that made it possible for him to literally take that belt from Jon. That couldve just as easily occured instead of Jon winning. He had the potential to take the belt that night, that in and of itself makes him a champion in many peoples books. Stone cold killer

Jon Jones specifically thanked Alex for this fight in his Hall of Fame induction speech. It pulled everything out of both of these men, and showed the world what a true heart of a warrior looks like. Jon Jones himself eluded that Alex was the actual winner of this fight, later in that speech. This fight will go down in history as one of the greatest ever. Both of these men are absolute legends.
