UFC 225: Inside the Octagon - Whittaker vs Romero 2
Спорт
John and Dan preview the UFC 225 main event between UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero. The two first met back at UFC 213 where Whittaker had his hand raised after a grueling five round war to become the first Australian to wear UFC gold.
Romero confirmed his status as the number one contender by knocking out former champion Luke Rockhold, and now the Cuban gets a chance at redemption against the newly crowned champion.
Hosted by UFC commentators John Gooden and Dan Hardy, UFC Inside the Octagon is an in-depth tactical analysis show that previews the feature fights at upcoming UFC events.

Dan Hardy is an excellent analyst

Pointing out the obvious makes you an excellent analyst? Cool.
@PaintinPixie

Not trying to offend. Just saying, he mostly points out the duh things but then says something smart that sounds appropriate. It's a British thing. Just acknowledging both sides of an argument. Not something many Americans can do let alone UFC fighters.

What scares me is seeing Yoel still improving . He paced himself so well against Luke Rockhold. Improved his hand traps, feints and blocks, which are very underrated as is it, managed his energy, everything... scary individual. EDIT: let's not forget that Robert whittaker has some of the scariest striking coupled with brilliant takedown and grappling defense and he's *ONLY 27 YEARS OLD*

@BernardoWLopes

I think he put enough pressure as it was... Luke has never been a crazy pressure fighter because he normally likes to sit back and counter, using his reach to catch his opponents coming in. He admitted this several times. So for a guy like Luke to put even more pressure, would result in him going face first into a punch by Yoel, I think. As far as checks go, that's what happens when you don't set up your low kicks with movement and/or punches. Same shit happened with Anderson. If you're getting stifled by strikes or having a hard to time with your opponent's range and timing, and just decide to spam telegraphed low kicks, you better be really fast or you're gonna get a hard check... Luke's boxing's is very poor and his movement and footwork could be a lot better. I just don't think he had the tools to defeat Yoel. I still think Luke is an amazing fighter and a great anti-meta, but yeah..

Too many counter-fighters these days = boring eg. Woodley vs Wonderboy. Glad both these guys are in the UFC. Both have great blitz attacks with unorthodox striking = Excitement. Its a shame one of them has to lose. Im with Whitaker on this one. But I wont be mad if Romero wins either.

I want Romero to win a spectacular fight just so we can have a trilogy
I'm so glad Hardy got the opportunity to do this job. He's killing it.
Whitaker is such a talented and crafty fighter. Hardy did a great job examining some of his weapons.
I don't know why the fact that Rob Whittaker making the Australian freestyle wrestling team for the commonwealth games 2018 hasn't been mentioned at all by anyone? I don't think he competed but he went through all the trials and competitions and legitimately made the team. So he has leveled up his wrestling as well, with his take down defense already being ridiculously good ya can only imagine how good he is now. The media coverage wasn't very big so it must have just been missed by everyone. Obviously Romero still takes the cake in wrestling but he had difficulty last time. Can't wait for this fight!!
@drdyer23
6 жыл бұрын
N Strat that’s exactly what i’ve been saying! he qualified number one in his weight division. he has competed in wrestling but not in the commonwealth games. the ufc kinda threatened him that if he got injured while wrestling they’d strip him of his belt so he had to back out. its super bizarre that no-one is talking about it
@nstratford9073
6 жыл бұрын
I think he has also won a couple of major Australian BJJ open weight championships? Maybe state level?? Rob is such a beast, well rounded and we hardly get to see all of his tools he has in his belt, as his striking and movement is just so good. And he seems like such a nice laid back guy

insane hermit Whitaker is a Pacific Islander so you can't live vacarioulsy thru his race. Assuming you're white.

insane hermit His mother is Moari and his father is Australian. He's not considered white to most white people or Kiwi's. But I guess the face that he's champ fixes that. Either way, it's just annoying to see him in this whole black vs white drama the guys from the states have.
This was very one sided to whittaker

Tiqonn OW that's how you promote champs. Too, he beat Romero once before. Fights are unpredictable but for promotion sake he is the champ and he is the second attempt challenger.
I often throw my high kick like Robert, especially in close range. I feel more stable & can reset much quicker. Robert has easily & quickly became one of my favorite fighters, he's a great ambassador to the sport of MMA
Been waiting for this literally watched the first a couple hours ago for the third time
As always love these breakdowns
Inside the octagon is brilliant - good job boys 👍🏻
Love these breakdowns!
Dan Hardy your the best, on the Whittaker head kick with square hips, it kinda reminds me of a hapkido style kick called the coreesent kick but whittaker torn his foot inwards at the last secound, kinda interesting to see.. great breakdown guys..
Superb breakdown as always Dan!
Great content - many thanks!
